MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The momentum keeps rolling for the 24th-ranked Western Oregon men's soccer team as the Wolves moved their unbeaten streak to eight games with a 3-0 win over defending GNAC champion Simon Fraser on Thursday afternoon at WOU Turf Field.
WOU (7-1-1 overall, 3-0 GNAC) scored all three goals in the second half to move to 7-0-1 in their last eight contests and move their unbeaten streak at home to 10.
Getting things going was
Yahir Ocampo Navarro as he converted a penalty kick in the 57th minute to make it 1-0 - his team and GNAC-high fifth goal of the season. The Wolves, who played a man up from the 59th minute on after an SFU (1-5-2, 0-2) picked up a red card on a second yellow, added insurance in the 78th minute as
Abraham Villalobos scored twice in a 41-second span (the first assisted by
Alex Grignon, the second by
Evan Huber) to push the WOU lead to 3-0.
WOU outshot the Red Leafs 11-7 - including 6-3 on shots on goal. WOU keeper
Andre Schlaefli - the GNAC Defensive Player of the Week this past week - picked up three saves and a shutout, including making a save on a penlaty kick in the second half.
The Wolves' unbeaten streak will be put to the test Saturday as they travel to take on a Seattle Pacific team that is 4-2-2 on the season.
