FAIRBANKS, Alaska --- Western Oregon women's basketball's game-tying 3-point attempt at hte buzzer was off the mark and the Wolves fell to Western Colorado 70-67 Saturday at the Mt. McKinley Bank North Star Invitational.
The Wolves (2-1) outscored the Mountaineers (2-2) in each of the first three quarters to take a slim four-point lead into the fourth quarter in a contest where the lead changed 15 times. However, the Wolves eventually found themselves down 68-61 with 46 remaining before a three-point play from
Natalie Brown with 24 seconds left and a 3-pointer from
Ciona Wells with 17 seconds remaining made it 69-57.
After a Mountaineer free throw made it 70-67 with 15 seconds left, the Wolves had a chance to tie it - but the shot was off the mark and they suffered their first loss of the season.
Four Wolves finished in double figures with
Mya India Thomas leading the way in her season debut, scoring 21 points in 20 minutes of action - including a trio of 3-pointers and six rebounds.
MilaSarai Tau had 14 points and a team-high nine rebounds in 16 minutes of action,
Natalie Brown - who was named to the All-Tournament Team - had 13 points and eight rebounds (two off her third-straight double-double) while
Ciona Wells had 12 points - going 3-for-6 from 3-point range.Â
