MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon men's basketball team rallied from a double-digit halftime deficit and defeated Academy of Art in overtime 90-83 in its home opener Saturday at New PE Building.
The Wolves (2-7 overall) entered halftime down 48-38, but were able to use the second 20-minutes to chip away at the Urban Knights' (2-3) lead before
Jason Gallant secured the game-tying bucket with 11 seconds remaining in regulation. The Wolves defense proved strong in the final seconds, preventing the game-winning basket by Art U in the final second of regulation to force overtime.
After back-and-fourth scoring to start the extra five, Gallant drained a 3-pointer with 1:25 remaining, putting the Wolves ahead for the final time over Art U and secured the home-opening win.
Gallant ended the game with a WOU-best 23 points and four assists while
Zach Moore finished with 18 points, 12 rebounds and three assists in his double-double afternoon.
Makaio Morphy collected 14 points - going a perfect 6-for-6 from the line - while Braydon Olsen rounded out the Wolves with double digit points, tallying an even 10.
The Wolves take the court again 6:15 p.m. (PT) on Dec. 5 against Alaska in Fairbanks to open GNAC play.
