MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon softball team got a three-hit shutout from senior
Mackenzee Collins in game one to beat 13th-ranked Western Washington 2-0 before dropping game two 7-0 Saturday at WOU Softball Field.
On Senior Day, Collins put together her second shutout of the season for WOU (21-24 overall, 9-13 GNAC)Â as she didn't allow a Viking (37-7, 17-5) hit until the fourth inning and a runner to reach second base until the seventh to pick up her ninth win of the season and lower her ERA to 1.87. She finished with a strikeout, three walks and did it all in just 88 pitches.
Collins got all the run support she needed in the second inning as a
Brooklyn Schneidt sac fly to center scored
Kate Ronning to make it 1-0. The Wolves tacked on another run in the fifth on an RBI single by
Chelby Smalley. Six different Wolves each had a single apiece.
In game two, the Vikings scored a run in each inning except the first to come away with the 7-0 victory.
Victoria Zimmerman led WOU at the plate, going 2-for-2 with a stolen base and a walk.
Erica Soliz picked up the loss, going all seven and giving up seven runs (six earned) on nine hits with two strikeouts and six walks.
The Wolves close out the season noon Sunday with another doubleheader against WWU at WOU Softball Field.
