BURNABY, B.C. --- The Western Oregon women's basketball team cut what was a 16-point second-half deficit to five early in the fourth quarter, but fell to Simon Fraser 83-68 on Thursday night at West Gym.
The Wolves (7-11 overall, 3-7 GNAC) trailed the Red Leafs (11-8, 4-6) 49-33 with 9:12 remaining in the third quarter before slowly slicing the lead to 57-50 heading to the fourth quarter after a pair of
Salma Youngblood free throws with 16 seconds left in the third.
A Youngblood bucket to open the fourth cut the lead to 57-52, but that's as close as WOU would get as an 11-0 run by SFU early in the fourth helped the Red Leafs pull away for good.
Freshman
MilaSarai Tau led WOU with 14 points to go along with seven rebounds in just 18 minutes of play.
Enid Vaifanua had 13 points,
Bella Pedrojetti had 10 points and six rebounds while
Natalie Brown had eight points and a team-high nine rebounds and two blocks.
WOU returns to action Saturday at Western Washington.
