NAMPA, Idaho --- It was a wild final 14 minutes as No. 23 Western Oregon scored to take the lead in the 77th minute, Northwest Nazarene tied it in the 80th minute and the Wolves took the lead for good in the 87th minute for the 2-1 win Thursday at NNU Soccer Field.
It was the Wolves' 10th win on the season - the fifth time in school history WOU has reached that mark and the first time since 2019, head coach
Kacey Bingham's first season in Monmouth.
The victory also clinches the Wolves a spot into the GNAC Championships as WOU sits with 23 points with three matches to go - third place in the GNAC and 12 points ahead of fifth-place NNU with three matches remaining (the top four teams make the conference tournament).
As for Thursday, the Wolves got on the board in the 77th minute as a free kick by
Ally Beavers went right in front of the goal where
Jada Foster headed it off the post, it bounced back andÂ
Kaia Borje-Peeples was there to put it in for the first goal of the season and in the freshman's collegiate career.
The Nighthawks answered with a goal three minutes later and the score remained that way until
Alyna Slayter hit a ball from outside the penalty area that went off the head of a NNU defender and went in at the 87th minute to give WOU the victory.
