SALEM, Ore. --- The Western Oregon women's basketball team trailed by nine points with 3:30 remaining but rallied to force overtime and then outscored Willamette 15-8 in the extra period to win 88-81 Friday night at Cone Field House.
The Wolves (2-1) were down 73-64 before back-to-back 3-pointer from
Mya India Thomas on consecutive possessions quickly cut the WOU deficit to three.
It was Thomas again that came through as she drained a 3-pointer with 1:35 remaining to tie the game at 73. Neither team scored the rest of regulation - forcing overtime.
WOU led 84-81 with 52 seconds remaining before going 4-for-6 from the line down the stretch to come away with the win.
Kylani Rookstool led WOU with 23 points to go along with six reboudns and three assists. Thomas finished with 18 points (going 4-for-7 from 3-point range) and four rebounds,
Enid Vaifanua had 15 points four assists and three rebounds while
Ciona Wells had 13 points, four assists and two rebounds.
WOU returns to action Saturday when it hosts Evergreen State at 6 p.m.
