POMONA, Calif. --- The No. 6 seed Western Oregon women's soccer team after a rough start put pressure on No. 3 Simon Fraser, but fell short as the Wolves season came to a close 3-2 Friday at Kellogg Stadium in the first round of the NCAA DII Championships.
WOU (11-5-5 overall) fell behind 2-0 in the opening 13 minutes of the contest to GNAC-foe SFU (14-2-5) and the score remained that way until the second half.
Less than 15 seconds into the start of the second half,
Ally Beavers scored to cut the Red Leafs' lead to 2-1.
SFU built the lead back to two at 3-1 in the 60th minute, but the Wolves had one last push in them as a corner by Beavers led to a
Cici Garcia goal in the 87th minute.
The Wolves had a near chance in the final minutes go just wide and their season came to an end in the program's first trip to the NCAA postseason.
It was a wide open matchup as the teams combined for 35 shots (SFU 19, WOU 16)Â - including 16 on goal (SFU 10, WOU 6). WOU keeper
Bella Lopez finished with seven saves.
The 11 wins is the most for the program since 2002 and just one off the record of 12 set in 2001.
