IRVINE, Calif. --- The Western Oregon softball team dropped both contests on opening day of the 2025 season at the Concordia Invite, falling to Hawaii Hilo 14-5 and CSU Monterey Bay 9-1 on Friday.
In the opening game against the Vulcans, the Wolves were led by freshman shortstop Lauren Maurer as in her collegiate debut went 2-for-3 with a run and an RBI - the only WOU player with multiple hits.
Gracie Nelson had a pinch-hit RBI triple for the Wolves while
Hope Bodak went 1-for-2 with a run and RBI.
Kennedy Abbas picked up the loss, going three innings and giving up two earned runs on eight hits with three strikeouts.
In game two against the Otters, junior North Idaho transfer
Madelynne Hommel paced WOU at the plate - going 2-for-3 with a run.
Maddie Doig drove in the Wolves' lone run and finished 1-for-2 with a walk.
Alyssa Fullmer got the loss, going two innings and giving up an earned run on three hits with three strikeouts and two walks.
WOU returns to action Saturday as it takes on No. 23 CSU San Marcos at 1:30 p.m. before taking on Chico State at 6 p.m.
