MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon men's basketball team led for the first 34 minutes of the game, but a late Western Washington run pushed the Vikings past the Wolves 87-78 Thursday at New PE Building.
WOU (4-19 Overall, 1-12 GNAC) jumped out to a quick double-digit lead on WWU (16-8, 8-6) after a Makaio Mophry 3-pointer at the 11:46 mark in the first half made it 17-7.
The Wolves took a 40-31 lead into the half and led by a game-high 12 points after a pair of
O'shen Cazimero free throws with 17:41 left made it 49-37. But the Vikings slowly chipped away at the WOU lead taking its first lead with 6:21 left in the contest at 66-65.
WOU was within three at 74-71 after a pair of
Jahville Collins free throws when WWU pulled away with an 8-2 run over the next two minutes.
Collins led the Wolves with 16 points to go along with a team-high four steals and four assists.
Jason Gallant had 15 points and a team-high five rebounds while
Zach Moore and
Anjay Cortez each had 10 points apiece.
WOU returns to action 4:15 p.m. Saturday against Simon Fraser.
