MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon women's basketball team was within striking distance in the fourth quarter, but couldn't find a way to get all the way back into the game as the Wolves fell to Saint Martin's 62-55 on Saturday at New PE Building.
The Wolves (8-14 overall, 4-10 GNAC) trailed by as much as 15 late in the second quarter to the Saints (14-9, 7-7) before opening the third quarter on a 14-4 run capped by a
Ciona Wells 3-pointer with 4:55 left in the quarter to make it 41-39.
WOU stayed within striking distance of SMU until a 7-0 run midway through the fourth quarter built the Saints' lead to 56-45 with 4:32 left as WOU wouldn't get within five points the rest of the way.
Bella Pedrojetti led WOU with 17 points while
Salma Youngblood had 15 points, six rebounds, three assists and three blocks.
WOU hits the road next week to play at Central Washington on Thursday and Northwest Nazarene on Saturday.
