FRESNO, Calif. --- The Western Oregon baseball team split its doubleheader with Fresno Pacific Saturday, dropping game one, 5-0, before taking game two, 5-3, at Dan Martin Stadium.
In game two, the Sunbirds (5-2) jumped to a 3-0 lead after scoring one in the first, third and fourth. But the Wolves answered back with four of their own in the sixth - opened by
Ruban Cedillo on an RBI single up the middle.
Randy Stultz brought home the second run on an RBI walk before
Zane Garvey brought home the third on an RBIÂ hit-by-pitch.
Robby Shepherd rounded out the scoring for WOU with a sacrifice fly, giving the Wolves the lead, 4-3. WOU scored an insurance run in the seventh, securing the Wolves win, 5-3.
Jacob Memmott started on the mound for WOU, going 2.2 innings and giving up two runs on three hits and four walks.
Shane Bailey got the win in relief, closing out the final two innings by allowing no hits and just one walk. At the plate,
Owen Bischoff finished 1-for-3 with two runs while Cedillo went 2-for-4 with a run and an RBI. Stultz went 1-for-2 with a walk and an RBI and
John Oleson finished 1-for-2 with two walks and a run.
In game one, the Wolves (2-6 overall) were held to three hits in the loss - two coming off the bat of
Andre Jackson II. Starting pitcher
Ayden Holker took the loss for WOU, giving up two runs (one earned) and no walks while striking out three in four innings of work. Jackson II finished 2-for-3 with a walk.
The Wolves now head to Lewis-Clark State in Lewiston, Idaho for a four-game series starting 1 p.m. Pacific Friday.
