MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon men's basketball team fell to Alaska Saturday, 85-71, in the New PE Building. The Wolves also celebrated their five seniors,
Jason Gallant,
Jahville Collins,
Zach Moore,
Tony Salinas and
Trey Wilmot.
The Wolves (5-23 overall, 2-16 GNAC) traded the lead with the Nanooks (14-13, 10-8) throughout the first half, with the Wolves taking the lead for the final time on a
Carson Frincke 3-pointer, making the score 20-19 with 7:04 remaining. Alaska took the lead again on their next possession, entering halftime with a 35-27 advantage.
In the second half, Salinas put the Wolves to within seven of the Nanooks on a 3-pointer, making the score 37-30 with 18:10 remaining. But that was as close as the Wolves would get.
Collins led WOU in scoring, going 10-for-15 from the field (including 3-for-5 from behind the arch) with 25 points while Frincke went 6-for-10 from the field (5-for-7 from 3-point range) with 17 points.
Gallant finished with 12 points, three assists and a team-best nine rebounds while Salinas had eight points and two assists. Moore added four points and four rebounds and Wilmot finished with two points.
