MONMOUTH, Ore. --- The Western Oregon baseball team used a five-run first inning to take an early lead and never look back against George Fox in a 9-0 win Wednesday at WOU Baseball Field.
The Wolves (12-22 overall) used a
Collin Irwin RBI single, a
Randy Stultz two-run double and a
Robby Shepherd RBI single to make it 4-0 before
Tyler Mohler scored on a wild pitch to make it 5-0 after one. The Wolves scored a run in the fourth on an RBI groundout from
Zane Garvey RBI groundout and three more in the seventh to make the final 9-0.
It was more than enough for the WOU pitching staff as it put together its second-straight shutout.
Josh Johnson got the win, going five innings and giving up just two hits while striking out four. Adrian Melendrez went two scoreless innings - giving up just a hit,
Caleb Malloy struck out three of the four batters he faced in an inning of work without giving up a hit while
Dominic Tatone pitched a scoreless ninth, not giving up a hit with a strikeout and two walks.
Irwin finished 3-for-3 with an RBI and two runs, Shepherd was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run and Stultz finished with two RBI and two runs.
WOU travels to play Seattle University starting 4 p.m. Friday.Â
