IRVINE, Calif. — The Western Oregon softball team dropped a pair of games Saturday at the Great Park Softball Complex, falling 4–0 to Cal State Dominguez Hills in the opener before a 7–4 loss to Vanguard in the nightcap.
In the first game, WOU (1-4) was limited to four hits in the shutout loss to Cal State Dominguez Hills. Victoria Zimmerman and Madelynne Hommel each singled, while Brooklyn Schneidt doubled for the Wolves. Kennedy Abbas went five innings in the circle, allowing four runs with two strikeouts, and Abby Stansbury worked a scoreless inning of relief.
Western Oregon produced eight hits in the second game but was unable to overcome a decisive third inning by Vanguard. Haley Homan went 2-for-4 with an RBI, Zimmerman added two hits and an RBI, and Lexi Baumgartner drove in a run. Lauren Mauer also recorded an RBI, while Braeli Martin started in the circle and Penny-Lew Barnett threw four innings of relief.
Western Oregon closes out the CUI Kickoff Classic on Sunday against San Francisco State.
