Box Score LACEY, Wash.--Archie Dhima converted a penalty kick in the first half, added two late insurance goals and Western Oregon's defense did the rest during a 3-0 victory over St. Martin's on Thursday afternoon at Saints Field.
The victory allows the Wolves to remain in the top spot in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference at 2-0-1, three points (seven) ahead of Simon Fraser (1-0-1) who plays Seattle Pacific tonight.Â
Western Oregon is now 5-2-4 overall. The Saints drop to 0-3 in conference play and are 4-6-1 on the year.
Dhima calmly deposited his free opportunity at 22:26 in the first half to get the Wolves on the board. It was Dhima's GNAC-leading 11th goal of the season, almost more than double of anyone else in the conference.
The Wolves had other scoring chances in the first 45 minutes, outshooting the Saints 11-4 in the first half, including 5-0 in shots on goal. WOU had three corner kicks to St. Martin's two.
Western Oregon controlled the tempo in the second half, and broke through with an insurance goal off the foot of
Erick Chavez who fired a strike into the lower left portion of the net to make it 2-0 with seven and a half minutes left. The Wolves added one more moments later on
Dominic Lemuz's score, with an assist from Chavez.Â
The Wolves dominated the stat sheet with 21 shots to SMU's 10, and WOU also had a 11-2 edge in shots on goal. Goalkeeper
Austin Valdez played the full 90 minutes in goal, directed the defense and had a pair of saves.Â
Western Oregon now gets a week off, getting back into action next on October 8 (Thursday) on the road at Seattle Pacific.Â

Andrew May. "The team needed to step up and dig deep to not only score the second and third goal, but to keep that clean sheet. It's something we have been working on and need to keep that going."Â
