Second Half Scoring Frenzy Leads Wolves Past Saints

Western Oregon scores twice early and three times in a 10-minute span of the second half to roll to a 6-2 win over St. Martin's.

Box Score MONMOUTH, Ore.--Host Western Oregon broke up a tie match with a barrage of second half scores during a 6-2 men's soccer win over St. Martin's on Thursday afternoon in Monmouth.

The Wolves found the back of the net three times during a 10-minute span to pull away from a Saints squad that had tied the match early in the second half. Western Oregon picked up three valuable points in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings to improve to 3-1-1 in league play and 6-3-5 overall. St. Martin's is now 0-6 in the GNAC and 5-9-1 on the year.

It was a wild day in Monmouth. Two players scored their first goals of the season early after kickoff to give the Wolves a quick 2-0 lead. Vitaliy Polyukh put WOU on the board at 2:08 with a shot into the upper righthand section of the goal, and Eli White scored at 18:16 in the same spot.

The Wolves took that 2-0 lead into the locker room at halftime, with a 10-2 shot advantage, including 9-0 in shots on goal. They also had four corner kicks to none for the Saints.

But the momentum shifted big time after the break. The Saints drew even with scores at 54:01 and 58:31. Those were their first shots on goal of the match, and to this point the Wolves did not have a shot yet after intermission.

That soon changed quickly. Charlie Matsumoto gave the lead back to WOU at 58:31, taking a pass from Marcus Vazquez and depositing it. That was Matsumoto's first score of the year. Three minutes later (61:43), Ignacio Brandon added on (pass from Archie Dhima) and then Dhima knocked home his GNAC-leading 12 goal of the year at 68:58 (pass from Vazquez) to put the game out of reach at 5-2. Idin Fakhri ended the festive day with his first score of 2026 with just a little over a minute left in the match.

The two assists from Vazquez were his first and second of the season.  In the final stat tally, Western Oregon outshot St. Martin's 22-6, including 18-3 on goal.

The six scores were the most this season for the Wolves (previous high was 5 vs. UT-Tyler).
