O'Connor go-ahead grand slam lifts Wolves past George Fox on Tuesday

NEWBERG, Ore. — The Western Oregon baseball team rallied behind Finn O'Connor's go-ahead grand slam in the seventh inning to defeat George Fox 13-8 on Tuesday afternoon at Morse Athletic Field.

Western Oregon (9-12) trailed 5-2 entering the seventh before the Wolves loaded the bases with a walk and two singles. O'Connor then launched the first pitch he saw over the right-field wall for a grand slam, giving WOU a 6-5 lead.

The Wolves broke the game open with a six-run eighth inning. Jason Olsen led off the frame with a solo home run before Western Oregon added five more runs on RBI hits from Jayger Baldwin, Tyler Mohler and Chris Arce, along with a sacrifice bunt by Gavin Shary that drove in another run and extended the lead to 11-5.

O'Connor led the offensive effort with a perfect 3-for-3 performance, driving in five runs and scoring three. Gunnar Shiotani added three hits, while Shary finished with two hits and three RBI. Baldwin also tallied two hits, an RBI and three runs scored as WOU finished with 17 hits in the win.

George Fox (5-8) jumped out to a 3-0 lead in the first inning and later stretched the advantage to 5-2 in the sixth before the Wolves surged ahead with the four-run seventh.
