Box Score MONMOUTH, Ore--Western Oregon peppered the Simon Fraser defense with a barrage of shots but ultimately none found the back of the net during a 0-0 draw on Thursday afternoon at the WOU Soccer Field. 

The Wolves fired 31 shots at the Red Leafs, 13 of them on goal. But Simon Fraser keeper Harrison Gough managed to deflect and block them all for a career-high 13 saves, sending both squads to a 0-0-1 mark to start the conference season. 

Western Oregon is 3-2-4 overall while Simon Fraser moved to 1-2-4 on the year. 

The Wolves started early with the offensive onslaught. WOU had seven shots in the first 20 minutes, including a penalty kick (after a Red Leaf red card) that was saved by Gough. Simon Fraser had to play a man down from the 20-minute mark forward.

When the first half was in the books (0-0), the Wolves had a 15-2 shot advantage, including 6-1 in shots on goal. Western Oregon also had nine corner kicks to Simon Fraser's one. 

The second half was more of the same, with WOU consistently sending shots at SFU's backline and Gough but they couldn't break through. The final tally was 31 shots to 5, 13-3 on goal. The Wolves had 15 corner kicks to Simon Fraser's one. 

"The GNAC isn't easy," said WOU coach Andrew May after the match. "Even playing up a man, Simon Fraser made it difficult for us. We know we need to take advantage of all the possessions and chances created. It's something we grow from and take into the next game." 

The next match is less than 48 hours away when Western Washington visits on Saturday, with a start time of 10 am at the WOU Soccer Field.
