NNU Postgame Quotes: 2/10/14

Head Coach Brady Bergeson
On the team’s performance…
”It was solid. We’ve got to be pleased with it. We came in and executed a game plan. As always would be against a good team, it’s going to take 40 minutes to execute it, but we stuck with it, and we did just that.”

On dealing with Northwest Nazarene’s strong energy…
“They gave us everything that we thought they would, and they outplayed us in the first half. They got loose on a number of open threes in the first half, which is something we can’t let them do. I think we tightened things down a little bit at halftime. We didn’t really make defensive adjustments per say; I just think we paid a little bit more attention to what we were doing—a little more detail with it. The difference was offensively for us. I thought the ball movement improved in the second half, and that kind of took the edge off. We got a big lift from Mirza [Sabic] off the bench in the second half. He had a couple of outside shots that we needed, and that took the edge off of things. That got us over the hump so to speak. I really liked the way our guys finished after that.”

On things to improve on…
“We’re a work in progress offensively and execution, and that’ll continue to be the case. We just need to put one foot in front of the other. We’re on the right track. We’re a good team and when we’re detailed. We bring the right mentality. I like our team.”

On moving on to this coming week…
“Tomorrow, we’ll take a deep breath. We’ll just lift. Then we’ll refocus on Saint Martin’s starting tomorrow afternoon and into Wednesday. We’ll really get onto Saint Martin’s. That’ll be a big game for us on the road at their place. They’re playing really well, and they beat us at home the first time, so it’ll be an important one for us.”

Sophomore Forward Andy Avgi
On the team’s performance…
“I think it was really good. We had the scoring across the board. Rebounding, we did really well. We beat them by two. I think we crashed the boards really well offensively as well.”

On dealing with Northwest Nazarene’s strong energy…
“We just had to come out a little more and get them out of running their stuff and trying our things. It worked out. They shot pretty well for the first half, and then second half, we just shut them down.”

On things to improve on…
“It’s always communication. That’s probably our lowest thing. It was okay today, but again, when we’re playing against a better team, it’s going to have to be outstanding.”

On moving on to this coming week…
“We’re in a dog fight with Saint Martin’s, and we have to get this win.”
