Western Oregon University Wolves

WOU (2021): Dunaway put together a big first season with the Wolves in 2021. He was named to the All-GNAC Second Team after leading the team in strikeouts (49) and led the starting pitching staff in ERA (3.06). Dunaway pitched 32.1 total innings, posting a .175 opponents batting average appearing in eight games that included seven starts going 3-1 on the mound. Dunaway went all seven innings for a complete game shutout against Saint Martin's posting eight strikeouts and allowing just a walk and a hit during the game. He added another six inning shutout performance against the Saints later in the season with seven strikeouts. Twice during the season Dunaway had at least 10 strikeouts against Northwest Nazarene and Montana State Billings. In five of his starts he had at least seven strikeouts.

Dunaway began his collegiate career at fellow GNAC school Saint Martin’s where he pitched in 13 games for the Saints during the 2018 season. He logged 23.2 innings and posted 16 strikeouts. He grabbed the win on the mound in his final outing of the season going four strong innings against MSU Billings without allowing a run. Dunaway added a save against Central Washington going 2.1 innings, allowing no runs and just a hit. Played at Skagit Valley during the 2019 and 2020 seasons, redshirting during his first season and then in the 2020 season the team went 8-4 before the rest of the season was cancelled due to COVID-19. Dunaway was a four-year letterwinner at Maryknoll High School, finishing his career as a team captain. Fun fact about Matthew, his brother, Spencer, played four years of golf at BYU.
