Outdoor: Ran in two meets…Posted season-best times of 9:57.80 in the 3000m and a time of 16:55.32 in the 5000m. Cross Country: Ran in five of six races for the Wolves…Placed 34th at the WOU Summer End Run with a time of 27:25.8 for a season-best finish…Also had a top 35 finish at the Pacific Lutheran Invite (35th)…The team finished in the top four in all five races Lopez participated.

AS A REDSHIRT (2007)
Was a redshirt on the 2007 Western Oregon cross country team.

PRIOR TO WOU
2007 graduate of Hillsboro High School… Four time letterwinner for the Spartans cross country and track and field teams…Second team All-Metro League in 2005 for XC…Named to the 2006 NWOC first team as a senior.

Born in Portland...Education major…Desires to become a high school history teacher…Mother Barb Lopez is a dental assistant…Derek has a younger sister, Sadie…Grandfather Jim Lopez participated in track and field and ran cross country for Oregon State University.
