Ben Stensland

Ben Stensland begins his first year as Assistant Men's and Women’s Track & Field and Cross Country Coach under Mike Johnson at Western Oregon University.
 
Prior to arriving at Western Oregon, Stensland spent six years coaching Track & Field at his alma mater – Western Washington University. There, he was a Student Assistant (2010) while earning a Bachelor’s degree in Kinesiology, a Graduate Assistant (2012-13) while pursuing a Master’s degree in Human Movement & Performance as well as an Assistant Coach (2011, 2014-15). He worked with most all event groups including Throws and Jumps as well as Sprints and Hurdles. 
 
While a part of the WWU coaching staff the Vikings won seven GNAC Championships, were among the NCAA DII top 25 ten times and won seven individual NCAA titles.
 
With the Vikings, Stensland’s athletes achieved an incredible amount of success.

  • 2 – USTFCCCA West Regional Field Athlete of the Year

“Coaching athletes is more to me than just improving marks or times – it’s about a commitment to investing in the lives of our student-athletes," Stensland said. "I respect that responsibility and I am looking forward to the opportunity here at WOU in mentoring student-athletes, guiding them in finding excellence within the process, and in giving them the confidence to be at their best when it counts.”
 
Stensland was born in Santa Barbara, California and went to high school in Sequim, Washington.
