Jason Slowey returns to the Wolves Track & Field coaching staff for his second season, working with the throws.
In less than 2 years time, athletes coached by Slowey have earned 5 USTFCCCA All-Region, and 4 All-GNAC honors, adding 9 of their names to GNAC, and WOU, Top-10 All-Time Lists; most notably Emmi Collier, who won her first GNAC Outdoor Shot Put Championship in 2015, and was invited to her first NCAA Indoor Championship Meet in 2016.
A former standout at WOU, Slowey collected 4 GNAC Shot Put Championships, 5 USTFCCCA All-Region Selections, 11 All-GNAC Selections, and qualified for the NCAA Championships 6 times during his 4 years for the Wolves; earning Marquis Spa Track and Field Athlete of the Year in his final year of competition. Slowey finished his career in 2011 with his name on 6 different GNAC, and WOU, Top-10 All-Time Lists, and was a member of the 6 GNAC Men’s Track and Field Championship teams ,that competed for Western Oregon from 2008 – 2011.
Slowey enjoyed a successful football career at WOU as well, becoming a 2 time All-American Offensive Tackle, 3 time All-GNAC selection, All-Region selection, and 2011 GNAC Offensive Lineman of the Year. In 2012, Slowey became just the 3rd player in WOU history to be selected in the NFL Draft, when he was drafted by the San Francisco 49ers in the 6th round. Slowey was forced to retire due to a series of back injuries in 2014.
Slowey is a member of the Wolves Football coaching staff as well, serving as Tight End Coach.
A native of Medford, OR, Slowey graduated from Western Oregon University in 2012 with a B.S. in Interdisciplinary Studies, and will complete a M.S. in Education in June of 2016.
