This is Mitchell Fesslers second year with the Western Oregon Women’s basketball program. Fessler joined the WOU Women’s basketball staff as an assistant coach in the summer of 2015. As an assistant at WOU, his focus is to cultivate and develop individual and team skills. In addition to this, he assists the coaching staff in practice and game analysis.

Prior to joining the Wolves, Fessler served as the head freshman coach for the Silverton girls basketball program and assisted the varsity program. During his time there he developed and implemented practice plans, oversaw skill training and player development. He designed workout sessions for improving stamina in his players. His scouting of opponents was instrumental in the overall success of the program. He coached the JV-II and JV basketball teams during the summer program. Fessler is most proud of the employment of a character-building program with his team.

Before joining the Foxes in 2014, Fessler coached West Salem’s 8th grade boy’s club team. There, he instilled a sportsmanship spirit and a never-give-up attitude in his players. He personally supervised all practice sessions, games and team building activities. Additionally, he utilized his passion of evaluating players’ skills to assess their individual strengths and drive overall team cohesiveness.

Prior to coaching for West Salem, Fessler served as head coach for the Stayton Thunder 8th grade girl’s club team from 2010 to 2012, where he oversaw practices, games, fundraising, character building, and team management.

Under his leadership, St. Mary’s 8th grade boy’s team went undefeated in 2010. In addition to the successful season on the court, all of Fesslers players GPA averages were raised after installing a daily study hall for the team.

In the 2009 and 2010 seasons, Fessler served as co-offensive coordinator for the Regis High football team.

Fessler also served as a student coach during the 2006 and 2007 seasons for the Southern Oregon University football team after his playing days were concluded. He played on the football team from 2001-2004.

He graduated with a Bachelor in Psychology, Minor in Health from WOU in 2016.
