McShane hit the ground running as a freshman in 2022-23, learning and running statistics for soccer, volleyball and basketball via NCAA Live Stats along with baseball and softball in StatCrew. He also learned and helped run several facets of overseeing game day operations and set up.

Prior to starting his work in collegiate sports, McShane - a native of Bothell, Washington - volunteered his time in high school collecting stats for Bothell High School's football, men's basketball, and baseball teams. He continues to support Washington high school sports, working as a statistician at the 3A/4A Washington Interscholastic Activities Association (WIAA) state basketball tournament.
