Soccer falls in season finale at WWU, 4-1

Box Score BELLINGHAM, Wash. - The Western Oregon University women's soccer team fell 4-1 at Western Washington, the No. 1 team in the NCAA Division II Far West poll, Saturday, Nov. 8.

With the loss, the Wolves end the season with a 7-11-2 record and a 3-7-2 mark in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (11 points) as Western Washington moves to 10-0-2 in the GNAC and 16-2-2 overall.

The match was scoreless in the first half as Kelsie Blachly had one save and the Wolves defense limited the Vikings to just one shot on goal.

Western Oregon would get the match's opening goal in the 48th minute of play. Jessica Hicks scored her second goal of the season on a redirected free kick from senior Maggie Kuzmer to take a 1-0 lead. This was Kuzmer's third assist of the season. 

The Vikings would answer back to take the lead on two Lucy Miller goals. Her first came in the 54th minute as Miller got a rebound off a Brynn Regan shot and knocked it in from six yards out to tie the match at one apiece. Her second came 12 minutes later after she received a pass from Kelly Irving and deposited the shot from 15 yards out.

Western Washington added two more goals, one in the 84th minute and the other in the 86th, for the 4-1 victory.

Hicks led Western Oregon with three shots. Blachly played the entire game in net and recorded three saves.
