SEASIDE, Calif. - The Western Oregon University volleyball team defeated Humboldt State 3-1 Saturday, Aug. 30, to collect its third victory in four matches at the Otter Classic in Seaside, Calif.

The Wolves earned the victory by the scores of 25-20, 25-23, 23-25 and 25-19. This was the fourth consecutive four-set match for the Wolves who have still not won a third set match.

Haley Kostrba filled the stat sheet for WOU Saturday, as she posted a team-best 18 kills on only two errors for a .372 kill-percentage in addition to 15 digs and one service ace. Jordan Burrows and Amy Herron once shared minutes at setter for the second consecutive match but this time Burrows led the team in assists with 27 while Herron contributed with 22. Danielle English, the libero, led the Wolves in digs with 22.

"We played well throughout the entire Otter Classic," said head coach Brad Saindon. "We were able to do everything we wanted this weekend. We were able to play everyone on the roster, specifically allowing the freshman to get some game experience, while defeating two regional opponents (Humboldt State and Cal State Monterey Bay)."

The Western Oregon volleyball team will be in Arcata, Calif., Sept. 5-6, for the Humboldt State Tournament. The Wolves will open with the Academy of Art Friday at 1:00 p.m., then face Humboldt State in the nightcap at 8:00 p.m., and close out with Simpson College Saturday, Sept. 6, at 1:00 p.m.

"3-1 is an outstanding start," said Saindon, "but we can still get better."
