LACEY, Wash. - The Western Oregon University women's soccer team tied Saint Martin's 1-1 to end a four-match losing streak Thursday, Sept. 25.

The tie was the Wolves first of the season and improved its record to 3-5-1 with a 0-1-1 mark in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference.

Emily Ingalls had the first goal of the day, and her fourth of the season, in the 36th minute of the first half. She received a touch pass from Naomi Shimabuku off a cross from Kristie Adkins for the shot into the right side of the goal. This gave the Wolves the 1-0 lead going into halftime.

"We played great in the first half," said head coach Rod Fretz. "We were able to control the ball and the momentum for a strong all-around half."

In the second half, the Saints continued to launch shots from beyond the penalty box and eventually scored in the 85th minute on a long through ball that was knocked in by Jill Jensen from 10 yards out to send the match to overtime.

Both teams would go scoreless in the next 20 minutes of play resulting in a tie.

"Our team was able to keep them out of the 18-yard box for most of the night and give ourselves a good chance," said Fretz. "We were able to go to Saint Martin's and pick up a point in conference which is always on the road."

The Wolves had an opportunity to take a 2-0 lead in the second half but a Maggie Kuzmer penalty kick was blocked by the SMU goalkeeper.

Brittney Rigtrup played all 110 minutes in goal for the Wolves and had five saves as only six of the Saints' 20 shots were on target. WOU took 15 shots with six shots on goal. Ingalls and Jessica Hicks both had three shots to lead Western Oregon.

The Western Oregon women's soccer team will continue its season Sunday, Sept. 28, at 2:30 p.m., against Southern Oregon in Ashland, Ore.
