Yellowjackets fly past Wolves in three

Box Score BILLINGS, Mont. - The Western Oregon University volleyball team dropped a Great Northwest Athletic Conference road match at Montana State Billings, falling in three sets, 25-15, 25-11 and 25-22, Thursday (Nov. 5).

This was the Wolves' second loss to the Yellowjackets in less than two weeks as it went to 4-10 in conference and 7-18 overall. Meanwhile, MSU Billings (15-10, 8-5) rattled off its fourth-straight win to secure a record over .500 for the season.

Senior Laura Sakala was a bright spot for the Wolves, registering 11 kills and just one error in 18 attempts for a .556 hitting percentage, her second-highest hitting mark of the season. Other leaders for WOU included Danielle English with 14 digs, Amy Herron with 18 assists and Lisa Martini with two assisted blocks.

The Yellowjackets controlled most of the statistical categories; outhitting the Wolves .270-.059, outdigging them 62-40 and outblocking them six-three.

Western Oregon was unable to grab a lead in either of the first two sets as MSU Billings took the 2-0 advantage in the match. WOU made a nice run at the end of the third set (8-3) but was too late and MSU Billings closed out in three.

The Western Oregon volleyball team will now travel to Nampa, Idaho to face Northwest Nazarene, Saturday, at 7:00 p.m.
