Box Score 1 | Box Score 2 SAN DIEGO - The No. 30 Western Oregon University baseball team swept a doubleheader from UC San Diego, Sunday, Feb. 15, winning the first game 2-1 and the second 6-2.

Game 1
The Wolves once again took a late inning lead in dramatic fashion as Jason Moseby crushed a two-run home run in the top of the eighth to propel WOU to the 2-1 victory over No. 2 UC San Diego.

The win lifted the Wolves to 3-4 on the season and dropped the Tritons' record to 3-2.

Jacob Pettit, starting his first game in a Western Oregon uniform, went seven innings allowing just five hits and one run while strikeout two to earn the win.

After Moseby's home run gave WOU the 2-1 lead Robbins called on reliever Brad Carter to close the game. He went the final two innings giving up just a walk to earn the save and seal the win for Western Oregon.

"That was a gutsy performance out there today by Pettit," said WOU head coach Jeremiah Robbins. "He battled them all day and kept us in the game and Moseby was able to come up with the clutch hit.

With one out in the top of the eighth inning, Justin Thornton doubled to center field and Moseby hit the home run to account for all the Wolves' runs in game one.

Moseby and Thomas McCarthy (2-4) were the only Wolves to register a multi hit game.

This was the second straight win for WOU after receiving a home run in the eighth inning or later which has brought the Wolves back from a deficit to put them in the lead.

Game 2
Western Oregon put up runs each of the first three innings to jump in front 4-0 and hold on for the 6-2 victory over No. 2 UC San Diego.

The win pulled the Wolves record to even at 4-4 while dropping the Tritons to 3-3.

WOU got single runs in the first and the second on RBI hits before right fielder Joe Pratt delivered a two-run home run in the top of the third.

The Wolves used four pitchers in the game and they combined to give up just the two runs on five hits with six walks. Kevin Gamble started the game and went into the third before being lifted for Kirk Lind. Lind pitched the next 3.2 innings giving up just two hits to go along with three strikeouts to earn his second victory of the season. Chad Lynch was brought in to start the bottom of the seventh but gave up four base runners in .1 innings before WOU turned to Rye Phillips who got the final two outs on a game-ending 6-4-3 double play.

At the plate, Travis Fox collected his sixth multi hit game of the season as he went 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored. Thomas McCarthy recorded his second straight game, going 2-for-3. In the game, the top three hitters in the Wolves' order combined to go 5-for-12 with three RBIs and three runs scored. Pratt was the only multiple RBI man with two.

"This was a solid team effort today," said head coach Jeremiah Robbins. "Our guys played well and executed and we were able to get three of four from the No. 2 team in the country."

"We just want to keep competing in every game and every at-bat," continued Robbins. "We don't play the team we play the game of baseball.
