ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Jacob Pettit went seven innings allowing just one unearned run and three hits to propel the Western Oregon University baseball team to a 10-2 victory over Saint Martin's Saturday, Feb. 28, at the CWU Invitational.

With Pettit's second win of the year improved WOU to 6-5 on the season as SMU fell to 5-7.

Catcher Taylor Mieras was 3-for-5 in the contest with four RBIs and his three-run home run in the top of the fifth inning extended the Wolves' lead to 5-0. Kyle Boe collected three RBIs in the game as he went 4-for-5 with a homer and three runs scored. The Wolves also received multi-hit games from Fox (2-5), Thomas McCarthy (2-3) and Griffin Boyd (2-5).

Boe got the Wolves started in the first inning as he knocked in Travis Fox, who lead off the inning with a double, to give WOU the 1-0 lead. He would also score the second run of the game on a sacrifice fly.

"We hit all through the order and Pettit pitched very well and put us in a position to win," noted Western Oregon head coach Jeremiah Robbins.

"We can't continue to be a streaky hitting club, we have to be more consistent with the bats," explained Robbins. "We got a taste of the GNAC teams and they are going to be good. We have to be better prepared to play everyday."

The Western Oregon baseball team will continue playing at the CWU Invitational as it takes on Central Washington tomorrow (Mar. 1) at 11: 00 a.m.
