MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon University women's basketball team fell to the No. 1 team in the NCAA West Region, Seattle Pacific, 70-39 Saturday, Feb. 28.
The loss dropped the Wolves to 8-17 on the season and to 3-11 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference. The win moved Seattle Pacific (19-4, 12-2) back into a tie atop the GNAC standings with Alaska Anchorage at 12-2.
Seattle Pacific held Western Oregon to 27.5 percent shooting (14-of-51) as it made 44.1 percent of its shots (26-of-59) from the floor.
Katie Torland led all scorers with 18 points as she went 7-of-19 from the field. She scored the first eight point of the game for the Wolves and her seven baskets accounted for half of Western Oregon's 14 field goals. Torland also had a team-high six rebounds.
Whitney Chase was the only other Western Oregon player in double-figures with 11 as she went 6-of-8 from the free throw line. Daesha Henderson led SPU with 15 points.
Western Oregon was hurt by a 5-to-26 assist-to-turnover ratio as Seattle Pacific had 20 assists to 16 turnovers.
The Western Oregon women's basketball team will play its final home game of the season Thursday, Mar. 5, at 7:00 p.m., against Western Washington.
