CHICO, Calif. - Taylor Mieras hit a two-run game-tying pinch-hit home run in the top of the ninth inning but it was not enough as the Western Oregon baseball team fell 12-11 to Chico State in the first game of a doubleheader, Saturday, Feb. 7.
After tying the game at 11-11 in the top of the ninth, Western Oregon allowed a leadoff single to Adam Arakawa start the bottom of the inning and he would eventually come around to score the game-winning run on an error.
The Wolves opened the game with a four-run first inning. With two out, Moseby doubled and was followed by a walk to
Kyle Boe. Speer then knocked a double to center field scoring both. Breda then stepped to the plate and hit a two-run home run to cap off the inning.
Western Oregon pushed its lead to 8-6 but a Chico State run in the bottom of the fifth and a four-spot in the bottom of the eighth had the Wildcats with a three-run lead going into the ninth.
In the ninth, Coursey hit a solo home run to bring the Wolves within two and then
Griffin Boyd drew a walk setting Mieras up for the game-tying home run.

CHICO, Calif. - Joel Garcia pitched a compete game giving up just four runs, three earned, and five hits to lift Chico State to a 8-4 victory over Western Oregon in the second game of its doubleheader, Saturday, Feb. 7.
The Wildcats have now won the first three games of the series and the season over the Wolves.
Jason Moseby collected two of the Wolves' five hits in the game and also scored two runs.
Jacob Pettit started the game for Western Oregon and was staked to a 4-0 lead after WOU's half of the third, but Chico State would score two runs in each of the next four innings for the 8-4 victory.
In the game, Western Oregon pitchers struck out just one Chico State batter while, Western Oregon hitters struck out 10 times.
The Western Oregon baseball team will close out its series with Chico State Sunday, Feb. 8, with first pitch scheduled for noon.
