MONMOUTH, Ore. - The Western Oregon University baseball team received complete game performances from its starting pitchers in both games of a doubleheader but were only able to walk away with a split as it dropped game one 2-1 before bouncing back for the 9-2 victory in game two.

The split ends the Wolves seven-game Great Northwest Athletic Conference winning streak as they moved to 23-10 on the season and 15-2 in the GNAC. It also pushed Saint Martin's to 17-22 and 10-11 in conference.

Game 1
Saint Martin's managed to push across two runs late in the game to spoil a complete game, five hit, and eight strikeout performance by Western Oregon pitcher Mike Eisenhauer as SMU captured the 2-1 win in game one.

The Saints scored the first run of the game on a 400-foot-plus home run by Michael McIver to dead center field in the seventh inning. The Wolves would answer back in their half of the inning on an RBI single for Garrett Breda to tie the game.

The Saints would get the eventual game-winning run in the top of the eight when Shane Schoeneberg dumped one down the left field line and when he tired to stretch it into a double, the throw by the Western Oregon left fielder sailed past second and down the right field line allowing Schoeneberg to score.

The eight strikeouts matched a season-high for Eisenhauer. "Mike pitched well enough to win and kept us in there all game," Western Oregon head coach Jeremiah Robbins said. "Our bats just did not come through when they were needed to and we were unable to capitalize on his effort."

This is the third straight time the Wolves have outhit their opponents in a losing effort. Today WOU had nine hits to SMU's five but got just the one run. Jason Moseby had three of the hits for Western Oregon as he went 3-for-4 and Garrett Breda added two and an RBI.

Game 2
Jacob Pettit struck out a career-high eight batters as he pitched a complete game allowing six hits and just two unearned runs and the Wolves' bats broke through with seven runs in the seventh inning as Western Oregon earned a 9-2 win in game two.

After WOU was held to just three hits and one run through the first six innings of the game it exploded with a seven-run, five-hit seventh inning in which it sent 11 batters to the plate. Drew Humphrey had a two-run single to get the Wolves' scoring started and Kyle Boe added a two-run triple to highlight the scoring in the inning.

Pettit allowed just three hits before the seventh inning, two of them bunt singles, as he improved his record to 6-1 on the season. "Pettit pitched outstanding in a must-win game for us and set us up for a chance to win the series," noted coach Robbins. "He competed in the strike zone all day and did what he needed to get the win."

The Wolves did not trail in this game as it struck for the first run in the bottom of the fourth as Kyle Boe scored on a double by Griffin Boyd.

Boe led the Wolves' offense by going 1-for-3 with a walk, two runs scored and two RBI.

"We stayed focus for much of the game and were able to capitalize on a mistake in the fifth," noted Robbins.
