Augustana tops Western Oregon

- Augustana outhit Western Oregon University .333 to .061, in the first round of Bronze pool play, en route to a straight set victory, 25-13, 25-15 and 25-20, Saturday, Sept. 5, at the Premier Challenge in Denver.

This was the third loss for Wolves at the Premier Challenge as they fell to 1-6 on the season. With the win the Vikings pulled to 4-3 on the season.

Amy Herron was the only student-athlete for WOU to reach double figures in any stat as she dished out 12 assists for the match. Danielle Reese and Sylvia Herrold had a team-best six kills while Danielle English paced the squad with seven digs.

The Wolves only hit over .100 in one set and that was when it had a .107 kill percentage (8-5-28) while the Vikings never hit below .267.

The first set was even until the 5-5 mark when Augustana seized control with a four point burst and ended on a 15-5 run to win the set 25-13. In the second set, the Vikings would once again use a big run to end the set, this time rattling off 11 of the final 14 points. The third set, stayed tight throughout and was even tied at 19-19, but Augustana had four kills and received two WOU hitting errors to win the set 25-20 and earn the match victory.

Western Oregon will now play Regis at 2:30 p.m., in the third place match of the Premier Challenge Bronze pool.
