Wolves can't slow down Vikings

MONMOUTH, Ore.
- Amanda Dunbar scored 32 points, while shooting 11-of-16 from the field, to power Western Washington past the Western Oregon University women's basketball team 79-53, Thursday, Jan 14.

The win kept the Vikings atop the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a 3-0 record and a 12-2 mark overall. With the loss, the Wolves fell to 6-11 for the season and 1-2 in the GNAC.

Dunbar recorded 24 of her 32 points in the first half, including 24 of the Vikings' 28 during one stretch. She ended the game with a 7-of-10 mark from three-point range, as she finished two treys short of the conference-record. WWU also received a double-double from Jessica Summers with 13 points and 10 rebounds.

Lorrie Clifford scored a career-high 12 points and dished out three assists for the Wolves. Meaghan White also added 11 points and four boards for WOU.

The Vikings rushed out of the gate to a 9-0 advantage, and extended their first half lead to 19-points at 41-22 on a layup by Willow Cabe at the 1:40 mark. WWU would take a 43-26 lead into the half but it was not done there. The Vikings mounted a 20-4 run to open the second half and secure the game.

Western Washington held a distinct advantage on the glass, where it outrebounded Western Oregon 45-33. WWU was also on target from behind the arc as they connected on 9-of-20 treys, while holding WOU to 4-of-14 from deep. The Vikings also shared the ball well, as they posted 21 assists on 27 made baskets.

The Western Oregon women's basketball team will face its first road conference test of the season this Saturday (Jan. 16), when it travels to Ellensburg, Wash., for a matchup with the CWU Wildcats.
