Danielle Reese had seven service aces, 14 kills and 15 assists to help Western Oregon earn a 23-25, 25-16, 25-23 and 25-18 win at Northwest Nazarene on Saturday, Oct. 2.
The four-set victory moved Western Oregon (7-6, 5-3 GNAC) into fourth place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference, one game above Northwest Nazarene (4-9, 4-4 GNAC).
"It is tough to win a road game in this conference," said Western Oregon head coach
Brad Saindon. "We are happy to pull this out on the road."
Reese's aces were seven of the 13 WOU had on the evening, as it outscored NNU by 10 in the department.
Jorden Burrows contributed with four kills and no errors to go along with 39 assists and three blocks.
Megan Triggs paced the Wolves with 19 digs and helped hold NNU to a .124 hitting percentage.
Becky Blees and
Samantha Ward both added nine kills.
"Dani was really good again," noted Saindon. "When we manage our hitting errors we can be pretty good; when we don't, we struggle."
Western Oregon was able to bounce back from a loss in the first set to win the last three.
WOU won the second set thanks to a 9-1 run halfway thru set. In the third, Western Oregon come from behind to grab the lead at 7-6 and would never give it back en route to the 25-23 win. In the fourth, the Wolves used a 7-2 run to break a 10-10 tie as it would go on to win the set and ultimately the match.
The Wolves have just one match one their schedule next week. They will face Saint Martin's at home on Saturday, Oct. 9 at 7:00 p.m.
