ROHNERT PARK, Calif.
- The Western Oregon University baseball team swept a doubleheader from No. 11 Sonoma State to earn its first two wins of the 2010 season, Sunday (Feb. 14).

The Wolves (2-7) snapped a seven-game losing skid with the win while dropping the Seawolves to 5-3 on the season.

Game 1
Western Oregon scored three runs in the second and Michael Ward allowed one run over six innings of work, and the Wolves held on to win game one 4-3.

Ward (1-0) surrendered four singles and one earned run while striking out five for his first victory of the season. Ward had allowed just one hit to SSU through the first six innings, but in the seventh the first three batters led off the inning with a single for the Seawolves' first run. WOU head coach Jeremiah Robbins then went to the bullpen for Kirk Lind who struck out the side to put down the rally.

The Wolves tacked on an insurance run in the eighth on an RBI single by Daniel Dillard to go up 4-1.

Sonoma State would mount another rally in the bottom of the ninth when Kyle Jones singled with the bases loaded to plate two runners. Robbins then again went to his bullpen. He called on Jesse Nunley who struck out Ryan Stevens for his first save of the year.

Daniel Dillard and Joe Pratt each went 2-for-4 to lead the Wolves. Dillard also added two RBI and Pratt had one and a stolen base.

Jones and Max Shupe each collected two hits for Sonoma State.

Game 2
Jacob Pettit and Dustin Fulks combined for the Wolves' first shutout of the season as they held Sonoma State to three hits in a 5-0 win in game two.

Pettit (1-1) pitched the first five innings while scattering two hits and striking out three to earn his first win of the season. Fulks entered the game in the sixth inning and closed out the final two innings of the game for his first save.

The Wolves made the most of their five hits as four went for extra bases. They scored a single run in the third inning on an RBI double by Devon Bouvier, and tacked on three in the fifth on a run scoring single by Cesar Lopez and a two-run homer by Garrett Breda. They added an insurance run in the top of the sixth on a solo shot by Daniel Dillard.

Lopez, Breda, Dillard, Bouvier and Grant Glover each had one hit for the Wolves. Breda led the team with two RBI, while Bouvier, Dillard and Lopez each added one.

Max Shupe had two of the Seawolves' three hits on the afternoon.
