LEWISTON, Idaho -
Kyle Boe went 4-for-5 with four RBI to help Western Oregon overcome a five run deficit and defeat Saint Martin's 12-11, Sunday (Feb. 21), on the final day of the Guardian Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning Tournament.
Boe singled in two runs in the top of the eighth to give the Wolves (5-8) their first lead of the game. WOU had fallen behind 10-5 after six innings, but it scored five in the seventh and two more in the eighth to complete the comeback.
Grant Glover and Boe both knocked in two runs in the seventh as the Wolves tied the game at 10-10. Glover finished the day 2-for-4 with three RBI.
Aaron Headrick (3-for-5) and
Logan Lotti (2-for-4) had two RBI apiece and
Andrew Irvine picked up one as a pinch hitter.
The comeback was made possible by three strong innings of relief by
Dustin Fulks (1-0). He held the Saints to one hit and one run while striking out three to pick up his first win of the season.
"We showed promise today," said Western Oregon head coach Jeremiah Robbins. "It was team effort and we continue to get better."
Saint Martin's (2-9) jumped on Western Oregon early, scoring runs in the first four innings before busting out for a five-run sixth. Saints' pitchers aided the Wolves' comeback late in the game with two walks and four hit batters after the sixth inning.
Western Oregon finished the Guardian Plumbing, Heating and Air Conditioning Tournament with a 3-1 record.
The Western Oregon baseball team will be on a bye next week before traveling to Nampa, Idaho Mar. 5-6, to face Northwest Nazarene.
"It was a good weekend for us, but we are looking forward to the bye next week," Robbins noted.
