POMONA, Calif. - The Western Oregon University baseball team dropped both games of a doubleheader to Cal Poly Pomona, falling 6-2 in the opener and 6-3 in the nightcap, Tuesday, Feb. 9.

With the wins CPP improved to 3-2 on the season, and WOU dropped to 0-6.

Game 1
Jenzen Torres hit a three-run homer in the first inning and Kevin Bosson pitched seven shutout innings to lift Cal Poly Pomona to a 6-2 win in game one.

Bosson allowed just six Wolves to reach base (four hits, one walk and one error) while striking out six to even his season record at 1-1. Kevin Gamble (0-1) took the loss for WOU after giving up four runs over two innings of work.

Cal Poly Pomona would add to its three-run first inning with single runs in the third, fourth and sixth. Western Oregon scored both its runs in the top of the ninth on a fielder's choice groundout by Devon Bouvier and a RBI single by Garrett Breda.

Game 2
Cal Poly Pomona once again scored three runs in their half of the first inning and would not relinquish the lead in a game which was called after five innings due to rain.

Scott Sibley (1-0) picked up the win in relief for the Broncos. He entered the game in the fourth inning with the bases full of Wolves and WOU down three, but was able to diffuse the threat while allowing just one run. He finished the game with two innings pitched and three strikeouts while giving up one hit. Michael Cusick (0-1) was saddled with the loss for WOU after being charged with six earned runs over four innings of work.

The fourth inning was the Wolves chance to get back in the game after falling behind 5-1. After the first three batters of the inning reached, Cody Reeves was hit by a pitch to drive in Logan Lotti from third and bring the Wolves to within three runs (5-2).

The Broncos then went to the pen for Sibley, who promptly struck out the first batter he faced for the first out of the inning. Brad Verstegen then came to the plate and knocked a single to right field scoring Kyle Boe from third. However, Devon Bouvier was also moving on the play and attempted to score from second on the single but was gunned down at the plate for the second out of the inning. Sibley was then able to strikeout Cesar Lopez swinging to preserve the two-run lead for CPP.

Western Oregon was very opportunistic with its hits scoring three runs on three hits. Bouvier, Boe and Verstegen each had one hit, while Lotti, Reeves and Verstegen provided the RBIs. Nick Tanos, Jenzen Torres, Travis Taijeron and Stephen Gonzalez each had an RBI hit for the Broncos.
