Baseball splits home series

MONMOUTH, Ore.
- The Wolves' offense broke out for 23 runs in two games, but the Western Oregon baseball team was only able to pull out a split in a doubleheader against Great Northwest Athletic Conference foe Montana State Billings, Sunday, Mar. 14.

The Wolves (10-11, 5-3 GNAC) won game one 12-0 behind Jacob Pettit. The Yellowjackets (5-12, 4-4 GNAC) then bounced back in the second game for the second straight day to claim a 15-11 win.

Game 1
Jacob Pettit went eight strong innings and Dustin Fulks combined on their second shutout of the season to help WOU grab a 12-0 victory in game one.

Pettit went the first eight innings giving up five hits and striking out five while walking one to even his record at 4-4. Fulks then came in and pitched a perfect ninth to complete the shutout.

Every starter for the Wolves had a hit, including Grant Glover and Logan Lotti who each had two doubles. Jason Moseby and Lotti added three RBI apiece.

The Wolves led 1-0 after six-and-a-half innings before putting up four runs in the seventh and seven more in the eighth. They batted around in both innings.

Game 2
Montana State Billings scored in each of the first five innings to build a 14-8 lead and it went on to a 15-11 win.

Jordan Kessler and Ryan Dennehy each knocked in four runs. Jeff Ridgeway went 4-for-6 with three runs scored. Kevin Zukaitis and Kessler also added three hits apiece.

Grant Glover went 3-for-4 and scored three runs for the Wolves. Andrew Irvine also added three hits in three at-bats.

Next games
WOU will be off next week before returning to action Mar. 27-28 against Saint Martin's.
