BILLINGS, Mont. - Western Oregon baseball outscored Montana State Billings 31-3 in the twin-bill, Friday (Apr. 16), to extend its winning streak to 14 games.
The Wolves (24-11, 19-3 GNAC) now lead the Great Northwest Athletic Conference standings by seven games with 10 to play. The losses were the ninth straight for the Yellowjackets (8-26, 7-15 GNAC).
Game 1
Michael Ward carried a no-hitter into the sixth inning, while
Jason Moseby went 4-for-7 with three runs scored and five RBI and the Wolves put a season-best 22 runs on the board to take game one 22-2.
Ward (4-1) went the first seven innings allowing just two hits and one run while striking out 10 to pick up his fourth win of the season. He did not surrender a hit until there were two outs in sixth, but recovered to strikeout side.
"Ward set the tone for the weekend," said Western Oregon head coach Jeremiah Robbins. "He did a phenomenal job."
In addition to Moseby, five other WOU hitters recorded a multi-RBI game, including
Devon Bouvier and
Grant Glover each who each knocked in three by going 3-for-5.
Cody Reeves scored four runs and reached base in all four of his plate appearance. WOU outhit MSUB 25-5 in the contest.
"Our hitters were dialed in and stayed focused," Robbins noted. "Our kids are on a mission to go after a league championship. They are finding ways to open games up and create big innings."
The Wolves scored in seven of the nine innings and put up multiple runs in five of those.
Game 2
Blake Keitzman (6-2) pitched his fifth straight complete game as he held the Yellowjackets to five hits and one run in seven innings while striking out nine.
Daniel Dillard went 3-for-4 with three runs scored.
Grant Glover and
Cody Reeves each knocked in two runs.
The game was knotted at 0-0 after four innings before the Wolves busted out for five runs in the fifth and two in both the sixth and the seventh innings.
"Blake did a very, very well, and our hitters battled and were able to open it up late," said Robbins.
"This sets us up for two huge games tomorrow," continued Robbins. "We start a new chapter with each game."

The teams will play another doubleheader to cap off their series tomorrow starting at 1:00 p.m. (MST).
