WOU's GNAC winning streak ends at 23

LACEY, Wash.
- The Western Oregon baseball team's Great Northwest Athletic Conference winning streak was finally halted at 23 games by Saint Martin's in the second game of the doubleheader, Friday, May 7. Western Oregon opened with a 4-0 win behind Jacob Pettit's second straight complete game shutout, but dropped game two 4-3 to snap its winning streak which began on Mar. 27.

The GNAC champion Wolves ended their regular season with a 28-4 conference mark and a 34-15 record overall. The Saints completed their schedule with a 20-9 record and a 15-17 mark in league play.

In the doubleheader, Grant Glover went 3-for-8, including collecting hits in both games, to extend his conference-record hitting streak to 30 games.

Game 1
Jacob Pettit set a career-high with 10 strike outs en route to throwing a complete game three-hitter. Pettit retired the last 20 batters he faced in order and ran his consecutive scoreless inning streak to 20. In the process, he has lowered his ERA to a GNAC single-season record low of 1.80.

The Wolves had just five hits in the contest but were able to put four runs on the board thanks to four Saints' errors which led to three unearned runs.

WOU got one run in the first on a sacrifice fly by Jason Moseby to score Grant Glover, and added two in the sixth on an error and an RBI double by Bill Clontz. The Wolves' final run came on a sacrifice fly by Cody Reeves in the ninth.

Game 2
Western Oregon never led in the contest as it saw its GNAC winning streak end at 23 games, 10 more than the previous conference record of 13, which was also held by WOU.

Matt Marcoe went 3-for-4 with two runs batted in for Saint Martin's and Luke Abbott added two hits as the Saints outhit WOU 8-5.

James Douglas went the first 6.2 innings for SMU and Brock Peterson pitched the last batter to pick up the save.

Western Oregon scored all its runs on home runs. Devon Bouvier went deep in the second inning to knot the game at 2-2. Grant Glover then added a solo shot in the top of the fifth to tie the game at three runs apiece.

The Saints would score the go-ahead run in the bottom of the sixth on a single by Marcoe to score Cody Brooks from third base.
