BELLANDO BRINGS IT
Senior forward
Danielle Bellando has upped her play this season, and it was never more evident than this past weekend against the two Alaska schools. Bellando recorded back-to-back double-figure scoring games for the first time in her career. She scored a total of 24 points on 50-percent (12-24) shooting and also grabbed a combined eight rebounds. Bellando's seven made field goals against Alaska Anchorage was a career high, as were the 30 minutes she played in the same game. Her game-high 14 points against UAA also marked the seventh time this season that WOU has had a different leading scorer.
On the season, Bellando is averaging 7.6 points per game, up from 4.1 a season ago. She is connecting on 44-percent of her shots, second-best on the team, and is grabbing an average of 3.6 boards per game after averaging 2.8 last year.
STARTING OFF WITH A BANG
With a 5-2 record, Western is off to its best GNAC start in the conference's ten-year history. Prior to this season, Western's previous best GNAC record through seven contests was 4-3 (2001-02). The 2001-02 WOU team, who finished fourth in the conference in its inaugural season, was 2-5 through its first seven games. This season, the Wolves already have tie-breaking victories over the two teams directly behind them in the standings, Saint Martin's and Northwest Nazarene.
