MONMOUTH, Ore.
- The Western Oregon women's team held Northwest Nazarene to 29 percent shooting en route to a 57-46 win on Saturday, Dec. 3.

The win was the second straight for the Wolves who moved to 2-0 in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (2-6 overall).

Rylee Peterson registered a double-double with 22 points and 12 rebounds. She hit 8-of-15 shots from the field and 3-of-7 from 3-point range. This was her second consecutive double-double and her third straight game with over 20 points. Jade Haas added 17 points and seven rebounds. She also helped the Wolves get numerous easy baskets on the fast break.

"Everyone expects Rylee to do it but where Jade Haas has come from last season is amazing," said Western Oregon head coach Greg Bruce. "She is a difference maker because I don't feel anyone can keep up with her. If we can get her the ball in the open floor I feel pretty good about that. Rylee was a warrior again and gave a great effort."

Western fell behind 4-0 to start the game but raced out to a 14-5 thanks to a 14-1 run. NNU would answer back with a 14-2 run of its own to take back the lead at 23-22. However, thanks to three free throws and a Peterson 3-pointer WOU took a one-point lead into halftime (28-27).

After the break Western Oregon put on a 10-3 spurt, pushing their lead to eight points. The Wolves would never trail again in the game and extended its advantage to as many as 14 points.

Western Oregon held NNU (5-3, 1-1 GNAC) to just 17-of-59 shooting in the game, and to 1-of-10 from behind the arc. The Wolves also controlled the boards, outrebounding the Crusaders 41-32. Megan Hingston was the high scorer for NNU with 15 points.

"I was very pleased with our defense today," Bruce said. "They have some really good players and we held them all in check. I have to give props to our guards and posts; it was a good team effort. We also did enough on the other end of the court to win the game.

"They are a high scoring team and to hold them below 50 points was an incredible team effort," added Bruce. "We struggled early (in the season) but the competition we played early was very strong and I kept telling the girls that we were getting prepared to play the most difficult part of our schedule. We just needed that confidence to get us over the hump, and we got that with these last games."

The Wolves will be on a week hiatus during Finals Week. They will return to the floor on Dec. 10th at Humboldt State.
