WOU splits DH with NNU to win series

Lind picked up the win for WOU in game two, his first start of the season

NAMPA, Idaho - Western Oregon split the final doubleheader in a four-game set with Northwest Nazarene to earn a 3-1 series victory over the Crusaders.

The Wolves dropped the opener 6-5 before bouncing back to win game two 7-3.

The Wolves are now two games back of first place in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference with a 9-3 record (16-10 overall).

Game 1
NNU pushed across single runs in the eighth and ninth inning to rally past the Wolves 6-5.

Western Oregon had taken the lead on an RBI-single by Miles Kizer in the top of the eighth but NNU answered back to earn its first win in the series.

Northwest Nazarene outhit WOU 12-8 in the game and Aaron Headrick and Bo Folkinga were the only Wolves to have a multi-hit game. Michael Chiarelli alos added his first home run of his Wolves' career.

Game 2

Kirk Lind (1-1) made the seamless transition from closer to starter for the Wolves as he threw six shutout innings, allowing just one hit in his first start of the season, to lead WOU to the 7-3 win.

"Each of our pitchers in the wins really competed and filled up the strike zone," said Western Oregon head coach Jeremiah Robbins.

Lind was staked to a seven run lead as Western Oregon put up one in the first, four in the fourth and two more in the sixth.

Aaron Headrick went 3-for-4 out of the leadoff spot with three RBI and one run scored. Daniel Dillard added two RBI and Eric Copenhagen scored two runs.

Next games
Western Oregon will now return home to face Lewis-Clark State in a four-game series, Apr. 7-10.
