ELLENSBURG, Wash. - Western Oregon had its 11-game winning streak snapped with a 4-2 loss in the opening game of the Apr. 30th doubleheader against Central Washington, but bounced back to win game two 6-2.
The win for CWU in the opener was its first over Western Oregon in 16 games. The Wildcats now stand at 12-28 on the season and 5-21 in the GNAC. Western Oregon continued to pace the GNAC with a record of 28-12 and 18-4 in the conference.
Game 1
Palmer Brown threw a complete game five-hitter to lead the Wildcats to a 4-2 win in game one. He allowed just two earned runs while striking out three and walking none.
Griffin Boyd had two of the Wolves' five hits in the game. He recorded two doubles and went 2-for-4 with two runs batted in.
His double in the fourth tied the game at 2-2, but Central Washington scored one in the bottom of the fourth to take back the lead. The Wildcats then added an insurance run in the fifth for the final margin of victory.
Michael Ward was a tough luck loser for the Wolves. He went the first seven innings allowing 10 hits and four runs, only one of which was earned, while striking out eight.
Josh Solemsaas also collected two hits for Western Oregon.
Game 2
Western Oregon scored four runs in the first and then handed the ball over to
Cam Nobles who went six innings allowing nine hits and two runs to earn his fourth straight win and lead the Wolves to a 6-2 win.
Eric Copenhagen had the big hit for the Wolves in the first inning with a bases loaded, two-out, two-run single through the right side.
The Wildcats outhit the Wolves 11-7 but Western Oregon executed when opportunities presented themselves.
Next games
Western Oregon and Central Washington will conclude their series on Sunday with another doubleheader starting at noon.
