SAN BERNARDINO, Calif. - The Western Oregon volleyball team got a chance to see firsthand what the No. 2 team in the country looks like. Cal State San Bernardino came out in the season opener for both team and swept the Wolves in three sets, 25-18, 25-19 and 25-22, on Sept. 1.
Danielle Reese had 10 kills to lead Western Oregon.
Corynn Kopra added nine kills of her own and
Megan Triggs had 12 digs.
Krissi Kemper had four blocks to pace the squad.
LesLyne Satele registered 23 assists in her first collegiate contest.
Western Oregon's offense took some time to find its rhythm. WOU had just five kills in each of the first two sets, compared to 17 and 13 for CSUSB. In the third set, the Wolves' offense broke through with 16 kills and a .297 hitting percentage.
The Wolves had a chance to take the second set after cutting to Coyotes' lead to 19-17, but CSUSB scored six of the final eight points for the win. In the third set, WOU cut the lead to 22-20 but once again the Coyotes outscored the Wolves down the stretch to win the set.
Samantha Middleborn led the Coyotes with 14 kills.
Western Oregon will be back in action tomorrow (Sept. 2) against Chico State at 5:00 p.m. This will be the second game of four for WOU in the Cal State San Bernardino Invite.
