MONMOUTH, Ore. – The Western Oregon volleyball team scored the first five points of the match and never trailed for one point en route to defeating Simon Fraser, 25-12, 25-21 and 25-12, on Thursday (Sept. 15).

The win was the third straight in Great Northwest Athletic Conference play for the Wolves (4-3, 3-0 GNAC), and fourth overall. The Clan (0-7, 0-3 GNAC) has now lost their first seven matches of the season, winning just one set in the process.

Western Oregon registered a .296 hitting in the match while holding Simon Fraser to a .012 hitting mark. Krissi Kemper posted eight kills and no errors to lead the Wolves with a .667 hitting percentage. Danielle Reese paced the squad with 13 kills, while hitting .353. Brenna Peterson was the team-leader with 18 assists. Becky Blees had six assisted blocks to help Western Oregon outblock SFU 10.5 to 3.

“It feels good to be 3-0 and on top of the conference,” said Western Oregon head coach Brad Saindon. “This was a fun match because we got to play virtually everyone on our rosters; people that I think deserve to play.”

The Wolves will now prepare to face fellow 3-0 GNAC member Western Washington on Saturday (Sept. 17) at 7:00 p.m.

“I was very happy to get this match but we are really looking forward to Saturday,” continued Saindon. “You never say it's a must-win but beating Western Washington (at home) would go a long ways in our goal to win the conference championship.”
